I think I need some help here.
Problem to be solved: I want to know the purity of a trichloroisocyanuric acid based pool chemical. The percentage of active chlorine is stated as 90-92%.
After my preliminary calculations it seems this product should be like 98% TCCA. Maybe what I try is impossible, but anyway here's my calculations:
M(TCCA) = 232.4094 g/mol
TCCA + 3 HCl __> isocyanuric acid (?) + 3 Cl2
m(3 Cl2) = 212.718 g
212.718 g / 232.4094 g = 0,9152 = 91,52 %
So, is the TCCA pure or am I way off here in my reasoning ?
