What about this petroleum ether business?  Is this solvent so nonpolar that some things won't dissolve in it,(ie. gaak or pseudo/meth freebase) or is this utter bullshit.

foxy2:
1. Crushed 12hour relief sudafed pills and soaked for 12 hours in turps then decanted cloudy liquid.

I hope this was mineral turps, aka odorless mineral spirits.  Not the very STINKY GUM turps which is useless.

2. Boiled pill mass in nonpolar solvent (Petroleum ether) 5 times for five mins each time.
The Petroleum Ether was still cloudy by the fifth boil, swim got worried about wasting solvent so decided to dry the pill mass and perform an alcohol extraction thinking he could wash the crystals later.

Probably fine, but this is doing the same thing as mineral turps, aka odorless mineral spirits aka odorless charcoal lighter fluid(usually).

5. Extracted 3 times using grade A racing fuel (95% methanol /5% acetone).
Swim realised that some gaak would come with the acetone but thought the gaak could just be expelled with pure acetone later on.

BAD BAD BAD
Wash with acetone first.  Its better to wask GAK out of ground up pills.  Don't wait to wash until after alcohol extraction, this will lower your yeilds and result in dirtier suzy.

You also need to wash with an aromatic solvent too, xylene.  Do this before the acetone washes.

Also, methanol is not the preferred extraction solvent for gakked pills, dry isopropyl alcohol is better.

In general that is sort of true.  It won't wash out all gakks.  You need additional xylene washes for that.

Good info foxy2. Could kerosene be a substitute for xylene as an aromatic? The kero available contains 98% distillate of liquid hydrocarbons under 300°C / 2% aromatic hydrocarbons. Or would kero be more of a substitute for mineral turpentine which contains more than 98% distillate of liquid hydrocarbons under 300°C / less than 0.5% benzene?
Xylene and toluene are hard to obtain.

Not good as an aromatic.  Plus its very dirty, I doubt you will ever get rid of the Kerosene smell completely.

Xylene and toluene are hard to obtain.

You sure?
If that is true I'll bet you can get a high aromatics paint thinner or laquer thinner of some sort.  Read the labels of everything at the hardware, look up the msds of products if necessary.

Chewbacca:
SWIC bought a bottle of "mineral turpentine" today, which contains "100% liquid hydrocarbons". Is this useless for the full turps cure or what? If so, what other sort of "turps" should bee purchased?

Hes thinking of full turps-ing his aussie 120mg 12hr pills, which apparently come out easily in a turps cure.
