Title: isomerzation of safrole not required?

This wacker oxidation calls for "safrole"

Would running distilled safrole oil through a wacker
oxidation yeild mdp2p?

What exactly is the reason for isomerizing safrole?

Yes.

What exactly is the reason for isomerizing safrole?

To create isosafrole, which is the required starting material for synthesizing MDP2P through for example peracid oxidation.

Different routes demands different starting materials.
