Title: The Merck Index...Warez'd
Post by: MacHeath on August 18, 2000, 02:38:00 PM
Bees, one and all...

I surface from the depths of academia to bring you this... Posted here, in the hopes that those who browse this board, are more likely to utilize the information within...

Your slave to the warez, ChemWhore from t(0)<0, He, who is hot on the 0-day like mrstix on that 8-ball that you left on the tray, brings this bit of code...

The Merck Index, On CD, Warez'd for her pleasure...

This is not my pub, so I'm not claiming credit for putting it up, just providing a link that I ran across...  Props go to Crisao23 for the pub...

Now, this is an ISO, so those without CD-R's need not apply...  And here's the short and tasty guide to use ('cause the .nfo just isn't very informative, for those who are new to the scene).

1.  Direct WinRAR to open the .001 file (I believe WinImage will open it as well).  I know, it's not a .rar, but it works.  Uncompress all files found (should be 2, maybe 3.  .nfo, .bin and .cue)

2.  DL CDRWin from

http://www.goldenhawk.com (http://www.goldenhawk.com)

3.  Direct CDRWin to use the .cue file to burn the CD.

Caveat: I would not recommend the cracking of CDRWin.  I've heard rumors of pirated serials causing the deletion of your registry and those critical .dat files.  Just suck it up and burn in 1x. Them boys are serious when they declaim 'heavily protected against piracy'.  Or, if you simply must, ensure a current backup.

So, I suppose that's about that...  Here's the links.

Part 1:

https://www.idrive.com/crisao23 (https://www.idrive.com/crisao23)

Part 2:

https://www.idrive.com/wgbackup (https://www.idrive.com/wgbackup)

Sorry, you're gonna have to bust some Cut-n'-paste-Fu on those urls.  The url markup tag seems to insert a

http:// (http://)

automagically.

6 x 14.6 megs.  DL speed from an Idrive can be significant(2 simultaneous DL's/login with 220k/s each). I have ambitions of, in my copious free time, tossing ChemDraw Ultra up on an idrive...  One day...

Anyway, I'm outta here...  School calls...

Mack.  No logs, no crime.

Thanks, Tao... turns out, was just my absent-mindedness, forgot to edit cue file to reflect the directory where I had the .bin file... up 'n' runnin now!  Thx all concerned!

Wonderin... I know this is an international forum, but wonder if any of the california-type bees out there would be interested in a cd image of the entire set of california law codes, updated thru jan 2000, fully searchable?  could stick it on same ftp site w/merck, if is ok...

How can you extract a .cue/.bin file to disk? "Extract" from the folks at WinImage doesn't do the trick, is there any other utility?

You people are all dolts.  Just do some pm'ing to each other and sign up on Napster or Scour or download the software that lets two computers share files.  Trust your fellow bees, but have your securtiy up to date because it should be up to date.  Rename the files also, something like:   zpicture1.RAR, zpicture2.R01... or disguise them as jpgs... zpicture1.jpg, zpicture2.jpg...  a halfway intelligent person knows how to name them back to the proper extension (file name shouldnt matter, just extension.... some exceptions to this though).

But I strongly advise not allowing a 56k connection to dnload from you... your computer would need to be on forever :)  DSL and cable only.

Alot of hard work I know.  Now that I think about it this would be one hell of a time consumer for both the giver and reciever.  But if anyone had a dedicated computer on a fast connect, maybe they could (once they have it) pm a few people at a time for dnloading via dnloading from napster/scour... or that software that lets you link directly.

You are all still dolts.  And yes I'm a dolt too.

I got it. Use binchunker to get it to a .iso file, then use Winimage (not their extract program) to extract it from the .iso (obviously with the full path names, etc). This program takes up a lot of hard drive space because there's thousands of little files. A fantastic download though!!!

OK, here's some general news for those of you that want to know:
Firstly, the link(

ftp://ftp.candw.ag/pub/incoming/ (http://ftp://ftp.candw.ag/pub/incoming/)

) DID work for me, but I was only able to extract the files...and they won't open up.
I have saved them all(there's 14 files with 5.20M EACH!) to C: drive, and stored them in "online services". Also, I did load WinIMAGE Pro, but no matter what I did these files wouldn't open for viewing. Granted, I'm not the most knowlegeable 'puter person, but I can find my way around with some simple instruction.
If these can be opened successfully, I can put them in a server like visto, idrive, or napster and will be more than happy to pass along the addy in PM...If someone can help out with this problem.

Secondly, in case anyone cares to duplicate this and has a DSL/cable modem...my download time for all 14 files and a supplemental was 37min 22sec...

If they are unrar'ed to reveal a cue and bin file, use Nero to burn it onto a cd. You do this by clicking 'file' then 'burn image'. Then when the browse window pops up you need to change the file type to 'show all' and then find the cue file, open it and burn baby burn!
The cue file will load the bin into the burner.

All right, what wise ass deleted the NFO file containing the SN to unlock your CD after you burn it?
Little good a Merck CD does if you can't install it!

Somebody put it back, pretty please?

Hi HALON25,

OK, here's what you do w/the Merck (there are other ways, but this one seems most straightforward).  First, create a folder called 'merck' (or whatever) someplace like on your desktop where it's easiest to get to (just make sure you have room on your drive!) If you already have WinImage, open it up, select 'Open', pull down the pull-down menu to 'All Files' & then navigate to the 'merck12.bin' file that you extracted from the RAR files, and double-click on it.  It should open up in WinImage a bunch of little files & couple of directories.  Then pull down in WinImage from the 'Image' menu to 'Select'.  It should pop up the default, '*.*'.  If not, type in '*.*' (no quotes), click 'select'.  It will select all of the files that were stored in the .bin file.  Click 'close'.  Now right-click on any of the selected files, choose 'extract'.  When the dialog box pops up saying it's going to save to 'C:\windows\temp\', change that to read 'c:\windows\desktop\merck\ (or whatever you named the folder)', and the radio button to 'Extract with pathname', then hit ''close'.  Once the files are all extracted, close down Winimage.

Now it's no problem!  I use Nero, but probably any cd-burning software will do; just go to 'create a data cd' or the equivalent in your cd-burning software, and select all of those files from 'merck'. Choose 'create cd' or 'burn' or the equivilent.  Make sure you select 'burn cd image' or 'make cd image' or 'burn to file' or whatever (so your cd software doesn't have a 'buffer overrun' from all of those little files).  After you get the image, use it to burn to cd in the usual manner.  When the cd is done, open it and double-click on 'install' (or maybe it's 'setup, i forget).  The Merck will put a small number of files on your drive, including an exe that you use to access the cd.  Have fun!

Am going to post this, but I know that it sometimes takes several days for them to appear on the serious board, so I decided to mail it to you now.

What was that about a fast connection?  I have one... what did you want done with it?

OK, bye,
jen

What are you talking about?  It doesn't require any serial #... I don't have one, & I burned it to disc & am using it daily.

On the other hand, your copy of WinImage or CDRWin probably does require one...

You don't need to extract with winimage!
Do it like I said if you have Nero.
Burn the bin and cue file directly using the Burn Image function.

To recap...

I downloaded the files last night.
Unrared with WinRar.
Then had a bin file and a cue file.
Burnt to CD using Nero.
Click on file goto Burn Image!
Change veiw file types to "all"
Click on the cue file.
Burn CD.
Ran CD, no problems, you can install the whole thing on hard drive,
or install an .exe which reverts to the cd for its database.

I took the liberty to upload cdrwin so that you can use that to burn the bin file to cd. This works I have installed it on my comp and the keygen works too.
If you people are all so retarded, I spose if I got permission. I could upload it all in zip files, seeing as how none of you retards seems to know what WinRar is?

OK, my bad, got it fixed. I was transferring my filez to a new system on another drive, and when I tried to crank it up Merck generated a stub Merck.ini down in the Windows directory, spewed out an error message and died immediately. I inspected the merck.ini in the merck directory time after time, and couldn't see what the prg was complaining about. I just happened to spot the bad merck.ini in windows, replaced it with the good one, and off she runs. I had just imagined it was some obscure copy protection scheme. But I swear I remember an NFO file originally...

OK.

I'm almost at the point of giving up. {just kidding} I have 3 useless lumps of plastic with holes in them and none of them are Merck 12.

first I downloaded the rars and extracted them using winrar to put two files in
D:\MERCK XII\

a .bin file and a .cue file. Then I edited the .cue file to give:

FILE "D:\MERCK XII\MERCK12.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

1) The first CD we can forget about. That was my error.
2) the second was made with Nero 5.0.0.9:
a) using the command: File, Burn Image..
b) selecting: Files of type: All files(*.*)
c) Clicking on the merck12.cue file
d) Clicking 'open'
e) checking 'Create Image'

result lump of useless plastic 2. Where did I go wrong? Was I supposed to open the .bin file instead of the .cue?

3) CD 3 was made by
a) locating all the relevant ASPI drivers (for 2K pro) on the net. Installing them.
b) Upgrading my cd burner firmware to the latest spec. by downloading and installing the flash burner. [Yamaha 4416e].
c) Installing CDRWIN 8b
d) burning as instructed - with no errors reported.

According the instructions given here, method 3 should work but I just got another lump of useless plastic.

Since installing ASPI and upgrading the CDR firmware I have been able to burn a 710M data CD (not the merck) using nero.

I have also managed to extract the merck12.bin using Win Image [total of 268,672,330 bytes, 7 folders and 7292 files]. Is it possible to simply copy these files to a CD and install from there? I'd normally go ahead and do this but i don't want to waste a 4th CD. Or should I just treat a directory of my hard disk as a CD path and install with the files remaining on the hard disk?
:(

Post by: CheshireHouse on November 06, 2000, 11:01:00 AM
you told Nero to burn an image of the bin file; but the bin file already is an image, of sorts.  you can use the 'create cd from cd image' and then 'files of type: all files' to select the bin file & burn it that way; or, yes, now that you have extracted all of the files from the bin, you can just burn them all over to a cd; that's what i did, & mine works great.

I have had no luck trying to unpack these files. I am using winrar, and when I try to unpack one of the 5 meg files, the resulting file shows a content of 130 bytes!! I have redownloaded both the merck & my winrar, just in case...still no luck. Any ideas?

CheshireHouse - Thanx - I will do as instructed.

Pheesees - double click on the merck.rar file or open the archive. Click on merck12.bin, click the 'Test' option to check that the files are OK. It takes a while to test but you should get no errors reported.

If there are no errors you should be able to extract the merck12.bin just as I did. Use the latest version Winrar 2.7 - I think.

the .bin file is a raw data file. Just rename the file extension to .nrg to use nero burning rom. probably could use iso or any other extensions, but know the this works for nero.

Try using bulletproof or another software that can download the file and if there's an interruption, that is able to resume as well. Is this the 13th Ed of the Merck Index? If so, I have got to download myself a copy...
Title: Serial and Manual, but no Merck?
Post by: MMM on April 27, 2002, 06:49:00 AM
For those unfamilial with warez, the serial and registration key are in the .nfo file in the zip.

The manual can be found at
I think the Chemoffice 6.0 is the right one, but be warned its 17MB, and some pages appear to be missing.

Finally, this file is supposedly Chemoffice Ultra 6.0 (2001), which should contain ed. 13 of the Merck Index, but I cant find it in the installed software!!  :(  Total installed size is 67.1MB

Its possible I suppose that the warez guys who packaged it, stripped the databases, which IMO makes it useless except for drawing and filing your own stuff. Not conclusive, but I've looked for an hour, I hope someone can find the databases in there somewhere.

Post by: MMM on April 29, 2002, 03:00:00 PM
1. It appears that a full copy of ChemOffice Ultra costs USD2700, so not many warez guys will have access.

2. There is a trial download with timelimit and NO databases, This is what will be cracked, ripped whatever.  :(   So it appears it is very unlikely that any of the versions of ChemOffice which are floating around occasionally will have all the databases. Bummer!

If you see a download, bear in mind that the Ed.12 of the Merck appears to be 50MB, so there is no way that a version of ChemOffice thats 53MB zipped is going to contain a database.  ;D
