Title: Flood and Wash in Bright Star

Can some one explain in Bright Star Step 3 the differencebetween flooding and washing??/

Flood: "Dilute with lots of water"
Wash: "Shake the solution with an immiscible solvent in a separation funnel, and drain off to separate impurities"
