Here are some interesting sounding references that I found at a recent visit to the local library. I haven't had time to follow up on them though.
btw: a friend of mine is going to dream about demethylation of 4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol (eugenol) to allylpyrocatechol and then methylenation of allylprotocatechol to 4-allyl-1,2-methylenedioxybenzene. Wish her luck. I'll post details if things work out.
