J. Org. Chem., Vol. 42, No. 14, 1977, pp 2431

Anilines are treated with CuBr2 and tert-butylnitrite in the presence of acrylic acid, forming alpha-carboxy-phenethylbromide. Amination of the halide followed by decarboxylation gives phenethylamine (alternatively decarboxylation followed by amination of course).
