MDP isomers?
« on: February 01, 2004, 03:41:00 AM »
when doing the performic eaction - is there any physical difference between isomers/eric ketones???

on distillation if you have 2 separate layers in your collection vesssel (if gently treated, ie generally miscible, bp +/- diff, 134-138, not iso!) - wtf?

ratio between diff (134c/138c) layers proportional to relative isomer formation..?

pictures of MDP-2P (yeah yeah - yellow greenish....?) would be appreciated as well as intermediate basified steps

gracias!

If you get two layers which will mix when shaken, with boiling points that close then your vacuum during the distillation probably wasn't steady. It most likely got better over time, and the second layer might be the ketone precursor, the diol, which has a higher boiling point.

Redistill it.
