p-2-np decomposition question
« on: May 07, 2003, 01:03:00 AM »
1. How different nitroalkenes should be stored and how long
   they're usable until they decompose..

2. What is the best way to reduce large quantities of
different nitrostyrenes (large quantity --> over 1kg)
after having used the fucking search engine and google
the best solution would be using LAH+THF but I'd stay
   million miles away from LAH...

1. Recrystallise them and dry them properly then they should be good for a vouple of years at least. I store them cool and dark.

2. What equipment do you have access to? Nothing beats catalytic hydrogenation if good equipment is avalible. But if you knew chemistry enough you could have UTFSE a bit better and found a nice and working two-step method. Nitrostyrene --> nitroalkane --> aminoalkane.
