Title: H3PO2 and H3PO3: How to tell which is which....
Post by: Giver_Hell on June 13, 2004, 02:25:00 AM
How can one tell the difference between H3PO2 and H3PO3 if both where dilluited with water? Doesn't H3PO2 react with I2 at room temperature?
Title: Yes

Yes, but the reaction is not fast due to the I2 solubility in solution. Give it sometime.

H3PO2 is oxidised with hot sulphuric acid forming sulphur.
