Silica sand is what swim usually uses but even better for creating super fine bubbles for the ker plunk are the huge blackish/grey colored chunks of rock salt from the rock salt used for ice cream making. Awesome for kerplunking. The stuff does disslove but not fast enough to matter. Occasionally add a few more salt chunks as you are basing. Also add more rock salt once you are good'n based up to squeeze that FB out of the lye layer.
