Title: Stupid extraction Question.
Post by: Learnbydoing on September 20, 2003, 01:14:00 AM
This will just take a second of your time.  SWIM was wondering what's the best method of extracting mexamine from isopropyl alcohol.  Swim was thinking that having the isopropyl alcohol be basic and relatively ionic (some salt added) and diethyl ether, or perhaps tolune.  Swim isn't sure which would work better.

That is hard to do, as isopropyl alcohol is miscible with both water and non-polar solvents. You should rather evaporate the alcohol to leave the mexamine behind, and then perform an acid/base extraction to purify it.
