Title: Fitting Condenser into Rubber Stopper
Post by: dctrax on March 29, 2004, 09:16:00 PM
My friend had a dream that she finally decided to get some decent glassware, but isn't quite sure how to fit the 'male' end of her condenser into the much smaller hole of her rubber stopper.  Is there supposed to be another piece to join the two, or should a larger hole be drilled in the stopper, or is there something else she's missing?

If you aren't using ground glass fittings, then your option is to drill a larger hole in the stopper, yes.

I don't know this for certain, but I have heard that some wine making stores have the ability to cleanly and neatly bore holes in rubber stoppers using liquid nitrogen to harden the rubber.  If you do this, you can glue an old claissen adapter in place, and put whatever you need into that.
