clean FB -> dirty HCL
« on: July 28, 2004, 03:36:00 AM »
Swim had some freebase, looked clean to him.
He burnt it on some tin foil and it burnt perfectly, no traces of anything left behind.
He titrated this same pseudo that burnt clean and evaped his water for HCL, scraped up and burnt a bit and it turned orange and left black gak behind.
Swim is thinking since the freebase burnt clearly its going to be impossible to SPD it to clean it.
How can this be? Does anyone know what gak this is?

If you did not reX the pseudo after the titration or at least give a good _hot_ acetone wash then most likely your culprit is simply excess hydrochloric acid.

Extra HCl is well known to "blacken your pipe" so to speak.

But after titration, if there is excess hcl, should it make the pseudo extremly gooey/amber colour when scraped up.
And it doesnt blacken the pipe so to say it turns the pseudo orange when burnt.
