Title: Thermometer
Post by: ADDkid on April 29, 2004, 05:00:00 PM
Does anybody know how to fix a thermometer, my reads at 101C with boiling water, and is always one degree off. I tried using heat to make the mercury reach all the way to the top, but was no use.

to your reading. they are not always accurate, at least the ones using liquid arent and steam has a higher temp than water and this is condensing on the thermometer boosting it a bit

It use to be accurate, I usually check before any major project, to tell you the truth I have worked many many many times in a lab and not once has it been off until now. ADDkid

Shit happens... if your that touched about 1oC buy a new thermometer, only a few dollars...

Otherwise yeah just note down that it is that margin out and allow for that extra error in your emperiments.

The temperature of boiling water fluctuates with the local barometric pressure (and your position relative to sea level).
