Title: Osmium/Brightstar Reductive Amination Question
Post by: alkadelic on April 10, 2004, 10:40:00 PM
Procedure ask for a one liter Round bottom flask. But i have a one liter Flat bottom flask. Also, it asks for a egg shape mag bar and all i have is a cylindrical mag bar. Would this affect anything, should i worry?

Thats fine. Some people worry that flat bottoms arent good for vacuum distillation. But for what your doing it should be fine.
Good luck.

Flat bottom flasks under vacuum (vac distillation kind) are not to strong due to the bend in the glass at the flat bottom, round bottom is stronger for this... but for what your doing a flat bottom is fine, and the mag stir bar is fine too, the reason they say egg-bar in round bottom flask is so it spins evenly, seeing your using flat bottom its no problem.
