but guafenesin (whose true name is Guaiacol Glyceryl ether) has no amino group in it. So in an acid-base extraction, it will not come through.

can get guanifesin out with toulene and mineral spirits if ephedrine or pseudo are the only other ingredients.

Your friends are dopes. Separating guifenesin from ephedrine is easy, and it has been a standard recipe in my books for years. It (guifensesin) doesn't dissolve in naptha, camper fuel, or other hydrocarbons. Now I must go to let the heat get back to normal again, and begin work on my next book.
