P2P Question
« on: December 19, 2003, 02:49:00 PM »
Swibn has been studying the al/hg reductive amination of P2P->meth.
It seems that most reductive amination's concerning MDP2P can be related to that of P2P.
In the following method;

https://www.thevespiary.org/rhodium/Rhodium/chemistry/redamin.os-bs.html

55.2g MDP2P (0.31mol)
66.9g  Methylamine.HCl
39.6g  98% NaOH
423mL  MeOH
26.1g  Al Foil
141mg HgCl2
are used.
If one was to relate this method to P2P, would one use the same molar ratio's, eg:
41.6g P2P(0.31mol)
66.9g  Methylamine.HCl
39.6g 98% NaOH
423mL  MeOH
26.1g  Al Foil
141mg  HgCl2

Or would the rest of the precursors have to be scaled differently aswell?

That's exactly how you calculate it.

But if you take a look at my page, there is already a document with the Al/Hg procedure adapted to the synthesis of methamphetamine from P2P (using either 40% MeNH2(aq) or MeNH2.HCl:

Swibn has studied all of your Al/Hg synth's and the one you mention IMHO, has poor yeilds.
Osmium reports near quantative yeilds with his variation and this is what swibn finds attractive.
Also the fact that 0.31mol can be aminated in a 1000ml rbf, thus a 500gm 12litre reaction vessel(spherical shape, multi-socket flange(for overhead stirring), shouldn't be too difficult.
