seperating hydrocodone from promethazine ?
« on: November 18, 2003, 07:51:00 PM »
SWIM has seen 2mg hydro pills that also contain 25mg of promethazine HCL. Problem is that taking any of them in quantity would put you to sleep from the promethazine. I have found that hydrocodone bitartrate is not soluable in ether but either is promethazine. That rules that idea out. But what might be promising is converting hydrocodone bitartrate to a hydrocodone base which is not soluable in water. Question is, how would you convert it and would the Rxn also react the promethazine HCL? Also to note promethazine HCL is soluable in H20 so all would need to be done is to filter the solids. This would all have to be done after cleaning the binders and waxes out wich can be done easily. Basicly SWIM needs to find a way to convert the Hydro bitatrate to hydro base without changing the promethazine HCl to something dangerous or H20 insolable. I am a new bee here so please let me know if I am fucking anything up or posting in the wrong forum. I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Also if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks,

hydrocodone is insoluble in water

promethazine is freely soluble in water.
can't get it much better than that.

I wish it worked that way. But the hydro that is in meds is the bitartrate form and is soluable in water. Is there any substance where the bitartrate form is insoluable and the promethazine isnt or vise versa? Or is there a way to convert the hydro to a base without screwing up the solubility of promethazine in water ? Also does anyone know if there is any need to convert the hydro back to its bitartrate after removing the promethazine HCL, will it become unstable or breakdown if left as a base?

TIA,
Dr.E

Come on some one has to have some ideas. swim really needs some help to seperate the crap from the good stuff. There must be a way to change the hydro to its base without affecting the promethazine. Please can someone shoot some ideas out here, swim has no idea were to start. Help would be greatfully appreciated. :)
