Title: chicory farm busted in limburg :D
Post by: carl on December 11, 2020, 11:33:46 PM
I stumbled upon this by accident: https://dutchreview.com/news/dutch-police-raid-weed-farm-but-only-find-vegetables/
They look tasty though, but they usually are bleached for consumption... guess the lady grew them for seeds.

Of course the underlying issue is that she got busted because of her electricity bill solely.
If I would be one of the cops, I would have taken one of those buckets "for analysis".... and then analysed the tasty heads chopped up and friend in butter, with a good pinch of heavy cream... tasty! :D

word of the day: "flummoxed" - bewildered or perplexed

Quote
It was “a special sensation for the police,” the police wrote on Facebook.

:D :D Good to see the cops getting a bit of a tickle, a "special sensation" every now and then. God knows they need it.

This article is insightful (but hardly profound) in a few ways.
One: that some people in society, with good intentions or otherwise, are on the lookout for things considered dodgy or not-quite-right and they don't always have the capacity to perceive things correctly.
Two: these same people are willing to narc on others.

The key takeaway being that depending on how your hobby is perceived by society you may be in the crosshairs of the law despite conducting yourself completely innocently and within the law. I think there's a positive in this story in that people are reporting what they perceive to be dangers in their community with the hope of removing potential harm from their environment, but fuck it if there isn't some panopticon vibes here as well. Not even chicory growers are safe!

The one thing I'm "flummoxed" by is why the Dutch even give a fuck about people growing weed in their house? Aren't the Dutch all about growing weed to the point that its normalised over there?

A few plants in the garden won't raise much attention, but having a hidden room where several hundred watt are in use to grow hemp are different, they take those down mercilessly just like in other countries.
The one is obviously for self sustenance, and the other obviously to make money with, and despite your neighbours being less likely to snitch for your few plants than in other countries, the fifty plants in your basement on a few square meters are just as likely to generate the interest of LE like it would do anywhere else.

Keep in mind you need, just like in the US, licenses to grow a certain quantity and if you do this obviously in a clandestine manner, you will be treated as someone who is up to no good with his harvest.
And they usually are, electricity is expensive here, and someone who pays large sums of money is obviously expecting to get his investment back later when selling the produced flowers.

Just like everywhere, where cannabis is decriminalised or even legalised, a few plants for the private individual are tolerated, but a few dozen plants obviously are not for self sustenance.
Holland has a black market for cannabis products just as well, I mean, the stuff is sold there in amounts that are prohibited to be sold on the legal market, and buyers and sellers exist just as anywhere else.
You can't go to the coffee shop and buy 100g of whatever, but you can from a dealer.
Thats why they try to take down the possible sources of these drugs just like anywhere else.

Interesting. I never even considered they'd have limits on how much you can buy but it makes sense, kinda. We have limits on alcohol purchases here and that's a ubiquitous, socially normalised rug.

I don't really care much for weed, relative to my other interests anyway, so it comes as no surprise that I've no idea about how open/legal weed culture works in countries where it's been like that for a while now. 100g limit? I know some serious stoners - hell, even regular stoners - who would scoff at such limits.

Food for though as to how an open, legalised drug society would look if more "recreational" drugs were allowed to be bought in the open. It seems to have worked quite well in the US but they're really good at seizing a business opportunity and running wild with it so it makes sense that a massive industry popped up around it, complete with apps equivalent to the 'uber eats of weed.'

IIRC in the netherlands you can buy up to 5g a time and carry this much with you around town. So if you're going from shop to shop buying 5g each time and get caught with 50g in your pocket you'll have a problem.

First it began with lettuce and then I graduated to eggplant. Before I knew it I was farming organic kumquat and was on the radar of every law enforcement outfit from Tokyo to Timbuktu. Remember, kids, before embroiling yourself in something so dangerous, think of the families in your community. Think of the children! The stories I could tell about life as a farm-to-table farmer.
