But how could SWIM make pyrogallol-1,3-dimethyl ether ??? Methylation of pyrogallol with DMSO ?

The yields are low enough for this procedure that it is comparable to a reimer-tieman reaction results.

Both reactions would yield the same product, both most likely in similar yields, and the reagents to perform both are just as common.

Just throwing the idea out there.  :)
