Title: Lousy Freebase Yields
Post by: pooky on November 02, 2003, 11:52:00 AM
P has used the borohydride reduction a few times in the past and has been happy with the results.P tried another, with 250g double distilled ketone, but had to run it on the patio unexpectedly ( Pacific Northwest,8 C overnight temperatures)for 27 hours.P usually would get over 200 grams of distilled clear freebase from that, with no pre run;but this time there was 130 grams of a milky freebase smelling fluid, under vacuum at 40C.P then got 120 grams of clear freebase which was gassed to give a similar amount of pure white snow.Anyways, would the cooler temperatures create this junk? And what the heck was it? P double distills the ketone, and dries the methylamine gas. Thanks for any hints..P
