Title: me Insane?
Post by: FlyBoy on August 08, 2003, 09:35:00 PM
My teacher told me once that there was a method of making Ether with a Tube Furnace. Something like 2:1 Methenol / Ehtenol? and maybe a catalyst. Is this true, and if true can Acetic Anhydride be made this way? (with different chems?)

Acetic anhydride can be prepared by bubbling ketene (made thru the pyrolysis of acetone) into acetic acid (or water). Diethyl ether can be made by the distillation of ethanol from sulfuric acid.

Research these techniques thoroughly before you attempt them, they're both potentially explosive.

That sounds more familiar, distilling ethenol from sulfuric acid. Sounds good.
I wasn't going to go trying anything really anyways but I honestly apreciate your info, as specially that on the AceticAnhydride.
