Title: After Steam Destillation
Post by: Gringo on December 09, 2003, 09:28:00 PM
Hey guys!

I was thinking about making a steam destillation with some plant material. No difficult thing!

I will dissolve the recieve with ether (my cheaper choice: chloroform) to dissolve the recive in the recieving-flask. Is it necessary to vacuum-distill the whole liquid, to obtain the "pure" solvent without the aqueous layer?

After the oil comes over with the water most will separate out. Put NaCl calculated to saturation in the reciever (separating funnel) for better separation. After separating the oil then extract the water a couple times with your solvent.

you won't need to pull the oil out with a solvent, just use a seperatory funnel.

Save you some money :)
