BDO ws GHB

Eh why does everybod talk about converting BDO into GBL?  
According to erowid one gram of BDO equals to one gram of GHB in both effects and potencety.
I meen why not just then drink it as it is.

First of all, several studies has shown that BDO is somewhat toxic in test subjectes.

Secondly, the subjective effect of BDO is much more "dirty". It feels much more intoxicating (in a bad way) than GHB. Finally the taste of BDO is enough to make most people puke, whereas GHB is a little more pleasant

In my opinion, there is a definite difference in effect of BDO and GBL/GHB. BDO feels more dirty and makes you cognitively inhibited, while GBL/GHB rather enhances the mental processes. This varies from person to person though.

I heard a rumour that BDO in itselfs might act as a GABA-agonist prior to metabolisation to GHB, is there anyone who knows more about this? If this is the case, it would explain a lot concerning the binge from BDO vs. GBL/GHB.
