Here is the preparation of tryptamine from this French article I didn't want
to type all the way. They also reacted N-methylaziridine with
phenylmagnesium bromide which yielded N-methylphenethylamine in 4% yield.
Someone please translate it.
On élimine complètement
Rdt = 9,6 g (46%). F = 116'
[F litt. = 115' (2)].

I have no access to this article, though.
2-Aminoethylation of indole and of 2-methylindole, Angewandte Chemie,
International Edition in English, 6(2), p. 178 (1967)
Abstract
Aziridinium tetrafluoroborate reacted exothermally with indole to give
tryptamine (I), b0.75 143-6.degree. (hydrochloride m. 251-3.degree.), and a
small amt. of 1-(2-aminoethyl)indole, b0.75 125-6.degree.; hydrochloride m.
213-16.degree.. Similarly was prepd. 2-methyltryptamine, m. 107.degree.
(picrate m. 218.degree.) from 2-methylindole.
