Title: stabliity of sodium methoxide
Post by: starlight on August 17, 2004, 02:13:00 PM
For storage of sodium methoxide would it be safest to make a 30% solution in methanol rather than storing the anhydrous material as a powder (spontaneous combustion on exposure to moist air is the risk being considered)

Either way is fine as long as you keep air out. It is not that flamable when stored dry. Get yourself a tank of nitrogen or argon. Those are not expensive and will provide excellent protection for your air sensitive materials.
