Cleaning Tainted Meth
« on: November 02, 2004, 10:10:00 PM »
Howdy Bees,
When one synthesises meth with gacked Pseudo is the outcome meth with crap in it that spoils the effect or a substance that isn't meth at all? If the former is true has anybee considered or tried vacuum fractional distillation to seperate them?

recrystallisation

recrystallisation would be easier, or chromatoraphy

the result depends on the mix of gakks still in the pseudo. Some, like ORange II, do not affect the reaction but do affect yield by tying the amine up and making it relatively impervious to extraction by a/b. Others, like the Eudragit gakks, contain both reaction inhibitors and a/b foilants. Your reaction may not even complete.

An HI reaction is like life in general. What you get out of it depends on what you put in it. The better the quality of the input, the better the quality of the output.

Recrystalization is easier but won't remove gack. Can't find a reference to chromatoraphy but if that is supposed to be chromatography do you know if that will remove gack.
Geeze, you are correct that the right approach is to start with clean precursers but I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's been caught with their pants down thinking a previously good extraction method had done its job when a new twist comes along. This seems to be a fairly often occurance and fractional vacuum distillation seems like a good approach for those instances. I don't have the equipment but SWIM could have bought several set ups from what he has flushed.
Has anyone tried fractional vacuum distillation for this?

No, you're not alone on that one.............

Read the thread entitled "Lithium/Anhydrous/Sudafed ...Li(NH3)n + e-(NH3)m"

SWIM had also been used to his old methods of doing things, and hadn't cleaned the gakk from his pills (why not, it always seemed to work before, right?)  Well, it did work, at least up until a few weeks ago,   ...now it's a whole new ball game. SWIM ended up with a batch of "salt", the shit don't burn on tinfoil, nor will the shit break down in water,  ..dunno what to do either.

Very curious as to what happened to yours? What made it not so enjoyable?

on chromatoGraphy, there are lots of types so one should be able to seperate almost anything.

how about sublimation of finished product to remove impurities? can this be accomplished without a convection oven?  Damn msm!

Sublimation depends on the fact that the boiling-point of the solid substance is lower than its melting-point at atmospheric pressure. please continue...

Recrystalization is easier but won't remove gack.

Wrong. Some gakks it won't overcome, most of them it will. It remains the final cleaning method for pseudo and if you don't recrystallize your pseudo before you react it, you are asking for trouble in the reaction.

On Chromatography

There are some excellent threads posted earlier this year in this forum on column chromatography. Rhodium's site has some killer information about chromatography in general, and if you are interested you will be amazed what a little use of TFSE will turn up on this area. Before Fester's hydrolysis thread, the emphasis was turning to chromatography for separating pseudoephedrine.

how about sublimation of finished product to remove impurities?

Someone needs to read the threads Prepuce and Evilscripter69 have put up on short path distillation of freebase pseudoephedrine. And yes, it does work. Its a  phase change separation method that if done correctly should be nearly universal in application. Maybe its not sublimation per se, as the freebase pseudo melt, then vaporizes, but the short path distilling method works.

i just wanted that clarified. vaporization, yes. sublimate, no.
