I found two articles in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry on benzothiophene analogs of tryptamines. They mention that the N-H in the indole ring in tryptamines aren't important in receptor binding. They also give a synthesis of the dimethyltryptamine analog (S in place of N-H in the indole ring) from the tryptamine analog using formaldehyde and formic acid Post 248013 (missing)
