Swig was wonder if he could use gum spirits (turpentine) to do acid base extractions, all the msds say is don't mix with chlorine and strong oxd.

It is not suitable for such purposes, as turpentine is relatively high-boiling, contains a lot of impurities and has low solvent power (due to it being very non polar). It is even a worse solvent than xylene.

not to mention that it completely and utterly stinks up the lab... worst smell of all the NPs SWIC has ever used, yuck
