Hello, I'm going to attempt a fractional distillation of WIld Lettuce (mainly for the learning experience not the end product) and need to know whether its active alkaloids are polar or non-polar molecules (even though I'm almost posative they're all polar).
They are:
Lactucin
N-methyl-b-phenethylamine
Coumarins
Cichoriin
Aesculin
Is there a good online resource for looking up such plan constitutes? Maybe a good book someone good recomend? Someone here told me to get the Organic Chemistry Lab Survival Manual and it was an excellent recomendation, just what I needed!
Get a chem text book if you dont know what to look for in an organic molecule for polarity. Look up the molecular structure, utfse (google) for the structures of the molecules your looking for if you dont know them.
I can differintiate between polar and non-polar molecules, it's finding their molecular structures that I haven't had the best of luck with...
did you even try?

I'm sorry, I didn't realize google had a search page just for pictures, very cool, thanks for the help!
