Going through the Demerol synth on Rhodium's(hail!) page , nicotinic acid caught my attention . I'm obviously not too keen on my opiate chemistry ,and it'll be more obvious when I ask :
What is the diff. between pethidines and fentanyls?

Would nicotinic acid work for synth.ing fentanyls , or just 4-piperidone specifically ?

wait ,there's more . . .

Can piperidine (from piperine and piperic acid in pepper) be converted into 4-piperidone ?

Nicotinic acid won't work, you need isonicotinic acid. Neither of these compounds can be used to make fentanyls/4-piperidone.
Piperidine is not easily converted to 4-piperidone either.
