Title: Dealing with waste from performic
Post by: FriendlyFinger on November 26, 2003, 05:50:00 PM
How do you properly dispose of the black liquid waste from a standard performic on propenylbenzene?

Thanks,
FF

If my lab were connected to a sewer system, not a septic tank, then I would just flush it down the toilet.

...this as all the components are fully biodegradable - It's only oxidation products of naturally occurring substances together with non-toxic inorganic salts. If you used dichloromethane in the reaction/extraction first recycle that by distillation as chlorinated hydrocarbons are moderately envirotoxic.

By "Properly" I mean, with as little impact on the envionment as possible. The law makers view people like me as less than human, because of hobby. But that doesn't stop me from caring about my surroundings. You'll never see me throwing a cigarett butt from the car! But then I don't smoke.
