are you talking about when the puddle solidifies? swim has not noted much of a difference in the way it solidifies, but maybe it has something to do with a cutting agent interfering with the 'freezing'? i dunno...

I don't know about sunrise. I think of it more like a star burst, at least if the crystal pattern is very thin on flat glass.
Supposedly there were at least some comparitive images of the usualy seen crystal patterns of both meth and pseudo (or ephedrine) somewhere at Rhodiums pages.
I couldn't locate them there searching on "crystal pattern" but does anyone else happen to know where they might be over there?
I'm still not quite certain exactly what an "alligator" is in this regard. But I do have a suspicion.

SWIN was wondering about this as well. Sometimes the
puddle of meth in his glass pipe solidifies into
beautiful, clear crystals, sometimes it just becomes an
ugly, opaque, white-brownish spot (even the same puddle
can transform into each of these forms alternately between
tokes).
So SWIN guesses this is not about purity, but is more
likely caused by the speed of the cooling of the glass
beneath the puddle. Slow cooldown is more likely to give
crytals, which can be observed growing from one side to
the other, while quick cooling gives the white blob.
Any other bees who would like to share experiences and
thoughts on this topic? Posting some scans of actual
crystal patterns would be cool, or if anyone could fine
the image Chemosabe has mentioned?
I had proposed posting some comparison tests here once but Rhodium quite quickly answered by stating this had already been done at his site so I didn't follow through with it thinking that Rhodium found the idea redundant.
But I never did search his site for the alleged images. They should bee there since Rhodium is not known as much of a BS artist. At least that I've ever heard.
Somewhere I know I've still got some good closeups of amatuer "melt tests" done with a glass vessel used for vaporization.
SWIT would be very interested to see these images Chemosabe. Or the afformentioned ones on Rhodium's site.
