Title: BROMO SAFROLE
Post by: Vibrating_Lights on June 10, 2003, 11:01:00 AM
Is ity possible to hydrolize Bromosafrole to MdP2POL With
NaOH Heat and H2O?

to increase reaction speed, you might either work with
an organic solvent/PTC system or in alcoholic solution.
hydrolysis also works in acidic medium (ie. dil. H2SO4).
you'll always get some elimination side-reaction.

now the $100.000-question is: why would you want to do
that? (halo-safrole => MDP2P?)

Title: bromosafrole won't give much mdp2pol

That reaction sounds like you are going to get isosafrole as your major product (elimination instead of substitution).

is much better, and if you really want MDP2Pol, reduce the product from this reaction.
