Could a finkelstien with freebase ephedrine and NaI in acetone be used to produce meth. Would be nice wouldn't it.

It'll probably work if you use DMSO as solvent. ;)

No, the finkelstein reaction transforms alkyl chlorides and alkyl bromides to alkyl iodides. It has no effect on alcohols.

Hey cillier the swap has been used for ages, you should've known that. Oh wait, you'd have to read a real chemistry text to understand the rxn mechanism, too bad Rhodium's site nor the hive actually explain it  :-[ .

You're absolutely right. The Finkelstein only works with halogenated propenylbenzenes like Chlorosafrole.

I am aware that the swap has been used for years.

I should learn not to post stuff when stoned.....hehe. Thanks for the correction though.
