Since hydrazine in precense of raney nickel would be decomposed to hydrogen and ammonia. I bet it could possibly be used here too. The oldest bottle of raney nickel I still have is now four years old. Just to test the activity I used it for a reductive amination 6 months ago. It was no problem to use it.
