OK thanks it seems to be working. The solution turned from dark red/purple to a light ketone yellow and the undissolved mercury now has a dull appearance to it.

Baal takes tincture and adds a bit more MeOH to it, as well as a few more G's of I2 crystals til all the mercury is dissolved in the solution. It needs to be shaken/stirred quite a bit to get all the mercury combined into it.
