Yes, ephedrine.HCl is less soluble in alcohol than pseudoephedrine.

Nevertheless any anhydrous alcohol will work just fine for extraction, hot alcohol will work better than cold alcohol and extracting by using several single portions of alcohol works better than using a large amount of alcohol for once.

Hot IPA is fine - cold IPA is not good as the solubility differs very much from cold to hot. You may soak it as long as you want but heat it up before filtering and do three hot extractions - more is nonsense, less a waste.

What amount of alc do you recommend?
Bees say just cover it about an inch or so...

But that really depends on the container beeing wide or narrow...

Use 3 times 50ml waterfree HOT IPA.

Join the three 50ml extracts and before evapourating the IPA, add three drops (yes drops, one per theoretical gram ephedrine) of HCl (20% or 30% doesnt matter).

This guarantees acidic conditions and the ephedrine in form of a non-volantile salt.
