If you using not complete pure E (when talking about pure E, I mean reX. E from a properly extraction) in E/I₂/rP reactions, what happens?

SWIM have made a pillextraction, boiled the pills mass 3x in NP, once i acetone and extracted with IPA. When doing the foil test, the powder leave a little bit crap. The same powder after a a/b extraction leave nothing.

SWIM have done some small reaction, 2-7grams, with a mix of powder which have not been cleaned with a/b at the end and a/b extracted powder, every time with about 50% yield and got a fine product.

SWIM is not blessed with the best a/b-extractions skills, everytime he lose a lot of the product and wasted a lot of chems. Therefore he would rather use the powder from the first extraction, compared to do a a/b on the product from the first extraction.

But will that 'cause crappy meth at the end?

If the product from the alcohol extraction is dirtier than the a/b product, you could try doing an a/b from the start. If you can get tetrachloroethylene, the Tetra Trap is probably one of the easiest and most effective a/b extractions. Geez's Waterless A/B would probably also work fine for you.

What the gakk will do in a reaction depends on which gakk it is, and there are many.

..that may depend on the impurities...

SWIM once steam extracted 8% ma Huang, acidified the distillate, removed the water under water and cleaned the resulting Ephedrine.HCl with a little cold acetone.

The ephedrine was quite away from pure - it had a violet colour, but was crystalline. Swim used this directly in a so called "LWR-reaction", and cleaned the product by steam distillation, followed from recrystallisation (IPA/MeOH) to get a very pure product.

So the use of unpure Ephedrine is possible... (but purification is still better )
