I don't know what happened to any of the post concerning chlomethiazole, they seem to have dissappeared from TFSE.

I have a couple of questions,

Could sodium metabisulfite bee substituted for bisulfite for the cleavage of vitamin B1, and would either sulfur dichloride or disulfur dichloride be able to fulfil the role of thionyl chloride for the nucleophilic substitution step?

Has anybee maybe thought of any possibility of analogues, or has any data on other halogen analogues, maybee substituting Br or I2 for chlorine?

Whats everybee's opinion on these?

Thanks.

Yeah I read those, nothing on the idea of analogues, or if it was possible to substitute the other sulfur chlorides for thionyl, as that is somewhat hard to prepare.
