1,4-Butanidol Blend choice?
« on: May 09, 2002, 10:01:00 AM »
Hello SWIM may be too smartfor her own good. None the less she is in a posistion to make sugestions on what to blend with BDO to make it legal as before but now more regulations do not allow for 100% BDO to be sold in small quantitys only blends will be. All right then THINKING ok so lets make up   blend for them to put toegether, At this poing I think it best to share her dream journal on the subject. Please throw in you coments suggestions and IDEAS....

Dream journal entry:
I thought this was going to be easy to come up with something. But the more I have thought about it the more complicated it got Well in my head at least. If you haven't come up with a workable solution yet hang on here come some ideas lets brain storm here for a second.

The problem is that manufactures of BDO want it to be a compound for a specific purpose and in the case where
Small quantities are sold this can be an issue if blended with something that is not easily removed. So how to economically formulate a blend that will satisfy the manuf and the end users needs for a clean nontoxic blend that can bepurifyed simply with out complexity. IE kitchen cooking.
Well a few things come to mind of the top of my list is:

1. BDO + Ethyl Alcohol this could be boiled in an open pot to remove the ETOH easily as BDO has a high boiling point. The problem is that as you May know that BDO and ETOH if consumed together can be very bad and people may hurt themselves. What else could be used here?

2.Then there is the other side BDE freezes up at about 45 f and I thought what is a liquid that is blend able with BDO and is still a liquid at RT thinking that if a bottle were frozen and then the liquid could be poured out of the frozen mush but will this be good enough thinking?.....

Don't look at me I didn't do it!

How about GBL?  ;)

Or water
Or orange juice

Glycerine. Hexandiol. Decandiol. Trimethylolpropane. Cyclohexyldimethanol. Dimethylolpropionic/butyric acid. Long chain diamines.

When specifying the above additives you won't have any problems obtaining the BD from the supplier.

Foxy I dont think you understand how important it is. Say an OTC product is about to be made a blend and you get to make the choice as to what they belnd it with. You are going to want it to be ez removable and cheap right? This is what I need help on ideas?
Thanks

WTF is that smell... It keeps following me.
