The automatical logout ate my message, so this is a short version:
Cocaine and analogues are produced semisynthetically from atropine via hydrolysis, dehydration (tropidine, almost no info on this), epoxidation and further processing.
Especially interesting: Troparil reverse ester (animal testing might be justified-the synthesis of pethidine's reverse ester MPPP yielded MPTP, a very neurotoxic substance).
I couldn't find references, any thoughts?

This goes against cocaine SAR... well, the natural configuration. The C3, C2, and carbomethoxy are axial... not equatorial etc. There are other issues with starting from atropine, but this is the primary one. It's not controlled/watched for these reasons, but ordering it still has the ability to cause problems post 9/11. Of course it could be extracted though.  

SWIDP recommends that SWIH just extract cocaine also... why synthesize something that nature is doing so beautifully... plants are the best chemists in the world.  ;)  ;D

If SWIH makes tropacocaine a 2-hydroxy substituent would bee nice to bioassay. It should bee equipotent with cocaine. 10x (pharm grade) cocaine would bee amazing... soon.  ;D

Tropine is a good starting point, but it is somewhat watched.

Started a similar thread on this a while back, IIRC tropinone was recommended, also slightly watched but cheaper. Probably easier to get a hold of and safer to work with than atropine.

What about just extracting it from datura  or mandrake or deadly nightshade? Those plants arent rare .
