I have found what I believe to be the best-fit freeware library software for our purposes, it is from sheep shagger land New Zealand, it is called Greenstone and provides indexing, fulltext searching (of all document formats), etc. It is EXACTLY what I've been looking for, it even provides the option for multi-language support (and presumably the conversion of the material into the languages - great for the German, French and Spanish speakers that I know of).
Now, I intend to put "some" advertising on the website - simple fact is, one cannot bank on the support of the collective when it comes to the money to pay for hosting/domain registration, anyone who is put off by that fact, I'm sorry, but it is necessary. And before anyone asks, am I willing to discuss the revenue generation with the sites that I frequent, yes, yes I am. As to the profit (if any, believe me I'm honest in saying that I strongly doubt that it will generate enough to pay its way), if there is any it will be gratefully accepted, anyone wanting to discuss that can PM me.
But as I say, this is a labor of love by members of the collective for the benefit of the collective. The site WILL NOT "host" any publications, it will merely link the available information and provide a searchable database to where it is. It will also link to the publishers websites. It is a LOT of work and anyone who wants to help build it and upload details - title, author(s), metadata, abstract, etc. as required by the indexing system (and I suspect it will be rather strict - otherwise the information will remain gobbledegook) is more than welcome to join the team.
PS I cannot promise that there will be any pecuniary recompense at this or any time, all I can promise is that for the very first time a "PROPERLY INDEXED AND USER FRIENDLY LIBRARY" for the collective, as a home for the collectives information will exist (NB No more disappearing information - the bane of our productive bees).
