Ethylene diamine + chloroacetic acid seems like an easy way. There are some other routes listed on its wikipedia page.

Na I just need it ASAP because of some fuck up with a lead compound and just want a little to be on the safe side before any that may be in system can fully sink in.

LOL EDA is an NH3 substitute for the birch generating a deap blue solution Ibee damned if Id butcher it If i could get my hands on it.

I was thinking health food store but i couldnt locate it anyware. Anyone got a brand to look for? Vesp where did you get yours from?

Speak of the devil I can across this when looking into the propertys of DMSO

DMSO also catalyzes the reaction between 2-substituted carboxylic acids and amines.

Thus, ethylenediamine reacts with chloroacetic acid to give ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA)

H2NCH2CH2NH2 + 4ClCH2CO2H ---- DMSO, 80oC ---->   (HO2CCH2)2NCH2CH2N(CH2CO2H)2

Not exactly what I want but since this is a EDTA source threed may as well include that.

I had to order mine offline, I have noticed that it is found in some quantities in various drinks - propel comes to mind, so maybe that is of interest?

Some soap & essential oil, personal care product formulator wholesalers/suppliers carry it, I think it is for removing various contaminants from their customer's formulations... they have a shitload of other interesting stuff too ;) Nice stuff in fact, vanillin, Di/triethanolamine, malic acid, glycolic acid, lots of others.

Funny enough I never got the EDTA but milk seemed to take care of it almost right away. N_I over at SM posted up an old text bok about how to handle poisons and shit and milk and eggwhites are used for heavy metals the milk makes it insoluble and the egg whites bind to that and expel it out though the system without it being absorbed. Good to know considering the work that goes on with Hg. It maynot be as effective as it is with lead I dont know but why not drink lots of milk and eat a raw eag white now and then to be on the safe side.

It sounds like this only applies to when it is in the stomach? If it is your bloodstream, bones, etc, I doubt this would help. I haven't really looked into it though so this may just be babble.

Yeh once its absorbed you pretty fucked. But in my case Im pretty sure it was just trace amounts in my mouth. Possibly from smoking s cig that a small amount of dust landed on ect.... The fact that it went away after I started doing this means that it probably want absorbed in large amounts yet and I just had to get that frightning taste out of my mouth.

I was melting a few pennies today to harvest the zinc. I probably should've cleaned them off first but as they were melting I got a metal taste in my mouth for a minute or two. I was wondering what are the odds of residual lead or something or another being on a dirty penny? haha

I'm sure it was probably just the copper or zinc ions or whatever in my mouth...hopefully.

LOL try having that taste for a few days poison, milk worked to get the taste out for me maybe it will work on copper or zinc also. Me and milk dont get along yet I kept drinking it for the benifits.

No lead in the pennies I wouldn't think, some oxides probably just got tossed up in the air and you tasted that. I wish there were an easier way to remove copper from the pennies.
Pennies are a great source of zinc :)

There may just be a means of doing so - Read the attached Patent (Patent US4482377)

@Sedit - Look for it using Google Shopping.  There are lots of vitamin places that sell it already dosed out in capsules.

@Vesp - It seems like you could use a Dremel and just cut a slit in the penny, then submerge it in HCl.  Get the pennies in rolls, and you could probably just take it right down the side cutting slits into all of them really quickly.  Then you have a ZnCl solution, which is useful as a catalyst for a few reactions itself, or the zinc could be kicked out with Al or Mg.

I've never really had much luck with producing zinc from Al foil, but that does sound like a good option. I may try it sometime.

Or Zinc Chloride solution (Used as flux for welding) is available all by itself (Sodium Fluoride flux is used for Al welding)

I got it pretty damn cheep for cleaning a pool cartridges but it contains the following.

Na4EDTA
Sodium Metasilicate
d-Limonene
polysorbate 20

in that order Im assuming. I have yet to do so but cleaning it out should consist of distilling to dryness ridding the Limonene and polysorbate. Acidification to free the EDTA.... LOL .....I haven't figured out past that because my plan is to attempt to hydrolysis it to EDA and Im just hoping the silicate does not get in my way ;D. I can distill off the EDA at that point and dry with Lithium before redistilling and using it to chealate some interesting metals ions.

@Vesp:

Man that sounds like a LOT of work when you can just go to a health food store and buy EDTA in 500 mg caps-about $15-20- for a bottle of 100...or buy 'em online for close to $10.  Places like Vitacost, Swanson and Puritain's Pride.  Or bulk prices at places like purebulk.com-$30/kg...

A handy thing to have in any lab for any accidental poisoning with heavy metals-pretty cheap insurance.  Good to keep activated charcoal caps handy for the same reason-adsorbs many types of toxins-
