Public Surplus
« on: April 18, 2009, 09:33:05 PM »
http://www.publicsurplus.com is a place where schools, and possibily other goverment related places auction off their "junk"
It seems to me that you can get very good deals on some of the things, but the only problem is you have to pick it up, since they won't deal with shipping. Everynow and then their is some good stuff on their it seems, for instance right now, in texas, their is a decent looking fumehood for sale for $100, and no one is bidding on it.

Do you guys know of any other public surplus places online similiar to this? It wouldn't be a bad thing to get a list of some of the small petty auction, or sales sites since I'm guessing their would be less competition. I know if that fumehood were on ebay for only $100, they wouldn't be having bidding problems.

Just found this also: http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/auction/view?auc=333308

These can be very difficult to get registered for - the govt's use some sort of handling company and they use public records databases to verify addresses so if your utility bill isn't in your exact name etc you can get rejected.  So if you're thinking of it - jump through the hoops first because it can be a lot of hassle.
