Philosophy: Morality or immorality of drugs?
« on: May 20, 2009, 08:10:27 AM »
Hey guys, just as the title explains, what is everyone's opinions on whether drugs are moral or immoral? Please state your opinion clearly and with a good explanation.  Also, this is a philosophy topic, so please keep any flaming or personal attacks to a minimum (zero).  I'll explain my opinion once there are a few posts in here.

If you live alone on a desert island, there's nothing morally wrong with doing a few drugs.

So then would you say it is morally wrong in today's society? Should it be this way?

No such things as morals, is there?

If someone wants to do drugs, or eat poison, etc let them.

Most drugs are not that harmful though if you are responsible.

There is no such things as morality, so "drugs" themselves are neither moral nor immoral (if an object could have a moral status in the first place).

Thats an even better answer.  I'm a firm believer that people should be able to create their own morals and challenge others.  I frequently get into morality debates with my friends, and it all usually ends up the same way - I drop the "your morals were created by other people" and they usually get mad and have no retorts.

Drugs are illegal; sometimes diffficult to obtain; expensive; and reputed to be very bad for you...

How could they possibly be a Moral Issue?

If drugs ever become legal; easy to come by; very cheap--or even free; and exceptionally good for both body and soul...

Then there might be Moral Issues involved with taking them--but anything with that many practical objections attached cannot be a Moral Issue.

They've outlawed a vitamin because it was proven to be a healthy drug.

Modafinil and arguably many other drugs can be healthy or beneficial. Mescaline being another example.
I'm still saying morals don't exist and thus nothing can ever be a moral issue.

What people do with their bodies are their own business as long as they are also responsible for what they do with their own bodies (ie get high and run over someone).
