Starting threads under the new reigeme
« on: July 07, 2011, 03:55:51 AM »
I just need a few things cleared up if anyone has the time

What is the rules on starting threads? If i am polite, punctual, and show effort to give a decent post, am i pretty much safe? In the past, my newb ness has earnt me some of the worst threads ever.. I didnt know they were that dangerous and i did the experiment to actually show initiative, not get grilled.. Granted, a few priceless lessons came out of that

How do i know if mods are giving points against me?

How many points have i got?

Can we start threads in discussion of refs, as out of the hundreds i now have, i have a few on oxidation,, epoxidation and Pd catalysed coupling.. that are def worth thier own thread.

I uploaded a few in other threads, but they have 1 download or something it really does them no justice

Can we get the Karma thing up and running? :P

Its asking for an act of god but I wish most threads where started the way prepublication threads over at SM are laid out.

Listen to every word Nicodem over at sciencemadness has to say about starting new threads and that's how I would like to see them here within reason. References.... experimental data, ect..ect.. Showing effort applied other then stumbling over a random synthesis and posting it saying THIS may work look guys. Or things like "my pet cat tryed to make this or that and everything went wrong where did I fuck up" these i would love to delete on the spot.

Just my take on the subject.
There once were some bees and you took all there stuff!
You pissed off the wasp now enough is enough!!!

Ok yeah all good points.. but the acquisition involved in pulling off some of these is risky in itself, then there is the whole process still to experiment

"My pet cat" is more than willing to, haha but before that, it would help to have some sort of discussion on the mechanisms, perhaps drawing from the experience of others.. clearing up some terminology, determining the limiting reagents ect

Anything helps than just jumping in on ones own based on a ref,

Ill post one up tomorrow

I'd say the most relevant rules are:

  • Posts should be timeless and free of personally identifying information.
  • New threads in "Main Topics" sections, excluding Acquisition, must contain at least one reference to prior art, such as a patent, journal or encyclopedia article, textbook, or experiment.
  • Posts must be clearly written (this includes correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and nomenclature), informative, and/or thoughtfully inquisitive.
  • Don't use SWIM or any variation of it.
  • Keep all discussions professional. Do not personally insult other members.
