Awesome tool for writing research papers
« on: August 21, 2011, 06:32:05 PM »
I just saw this on another board and decided to give it a try. It's pretty nice! I suggest some of you give it a shot. I'm thinking this will make research a lot less messy for me.

The kicker in most of these apps is that they store all that stuff on their server (and to a degree take ownership possibly allowing others to access it).  If anything you save has copyright issues they'll remove it.  Also you risk getting caught based on what you're saving.  I looked at a bunch of these and couldn't find one that didn't risk the stuff being seen on their site.  Plan on writing my own.

I wonder if the plugin for openoffice or word works the same way?

I can't imagine the unique circumstances that would have to be in place for leo to use such a thing against you. It would set legal precedence worldwide. If they were to find this information because you were already under investigation, then you're already screwed. It seems to me that as long as it's registered anonymously there is no way to tell if you have a legitimate research license or not. To take on the task of arresting a real live person based on some flimsy internet notes would cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. You'd have to be a really big fish.  I can understand being reasonably cautious, but this has never happened, ever, and with good reason. In order for that stuff to be something that can convict you of a crime they have a lot of things to prove or assumptions to make. It only takes reasonable doubt and if you can keep your cool and not plead guilty, generally speaking they won't pursue anything less than a sure thing.

I just don't trust them not to take things down due to copyright.  And it is more of a risk if you do get caught as opposed to just them trolling such places.

Don't count on being small fish to save you, they like taking down labs and inflating it to a BFD.  I  saw an article that referred to multiple meth labs being in a single house - by "meth labs" they meant 2 liter Pop bottles - each one counts as a separate lab.  The feds pass stuff down to the locals by using grants to fund officers for the local sheriffs etc - they belong to teams with a DEA agent or two called HIDTA.  This is how they can go after stuff too small for the DEA to bother with.  Doubt the reference thing would hurt you unless the site owner reported you.

Good news is budget cuts coming...  Those grants for sure are going - some places already hurting because the funds used for chemical cleanup were cutoff in Feb so unless the States are funding it they don't have the 2500 per site needed to pay to clean it up.  Means a lot less stings going down in some places.

Can't argue that. The word meth-lab has become common pig vernacular. Everytime I see them say meth-lab it just makes wanna wish bad things on them. It really is a shame that the people who are supposed to keep the peace in this country are the primary source of strife and hardship. I can't wait until human beings have an awakening and realign themselves with things that really matter.
