Help me understand the nature of solubility
« on: August 30, 2011, 07:17:12 PM »
I know there have to be some rules of thumb that relate chemical structure to solubility, I just can't seem to find them. Surely when picking a rextalization solvent you don't just blindly start dumping your product in test tube after test tube of various solvents looking for that perfect blend of only soluble in hot whatever. However I'm almost to that point. I would love to hear that XXX is the preferred solvent to rextalize mda, but I would much rather take something with me that I can apply to future projects, something more general.

Too stupid a question?

The rule of thumb is Like dissolves like which in social networking terms would be rephrased as Birds of a feather flock together  8)
Chemistry is our Covalent Bond

I was once sent a Pdf  re; Solvents,, to a well repected member..to which was added " I think you will find in this, Everything you would want to know"
(unfortunately, they are no longer visit this site.....or maybe ANY sites!!!)

--as I had been moaning about how "solvents" and choosing the Most Appropriate, for a rxn, or, extracting",, is almost Its Own science--I still think it is!

Unfortunately I couldn't open the document for some reason,,and shortly thereafter,,my mentor fell into a black hole, or something

Lugh you have come up with some clear and comprehensive references to a number of things....
Maybe you (Or ANY Member ) could help here also, with a reference to something comprehensive,
re; a dozen or so Ghetto  (easily acquired-OTC) solvents that are the Most Versatile and effective, in they types of procedures discussed here

reDEEMed is not alone here, and "solvents" and the Rationale/reasons, both positive and negative,, for  "their use", would be much appreciated by many members

 Thanx Hyppy
